SDK Tools Relocated?

Post by nick_6893 » Wed Jul 24, 2013 12:34 pm

I really don't go on the forums a lot and I don't know if this has been said or not.

I'm converting another deathrun map right now and I noticed that sdk tools is gone from my computer. It doesn't even show it in the menu of installed programs.

After some research, to start sdk hammer for hl2, you must go to here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2 Deathmatch\bin\hammer.exe

You then select "Half-life 2:Deathmatch" and then it will launch in.

To get get custom textures into the map, you must import them into here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2 Deathmatch\hl2mp\custom

In the custom folder, you can create a new folder like "newmap" and in there will have the models, materials, sounds. The custom stuff should load when you open the map in hammer.

Like I said, I just found out about this today and if anybody still maps, this is the new steampipe edition of hammer. Same thing, different location of files...

Have fun.

Cubemaps are still broken though.

Does this mean the gameinfo.txt fix is no longer required to run hammer for hl2dm?

No, now it's gameconfig.txt that is important.

Please make it a sticky, people always ask the same question over and over and they don't seem to search but ask me.

The Source SDK is now obsolete. To use Hammer, you'll need to execute Hammer from the bin directory for the game you're mapping for.

For instance, if you want to make a map for HL2DM, you go in X:/.../SteamApps/common/Half-Life 2 Deathmatch/bin/hammer.exe

Please stop asking this type of questions each time as it getting more and more annoying.

I've been answering this type of questions 7 times on Steam forums, so use your brain and look for answers before posting.

You can still use Source SDK if you have a game in your "username" folder.... You just have to change something somewhere I can't remember but it still works since it worked on my old computer... Now I don't have the old files in my old "username" folder so I can't use it. :P
