Can we make an NPC hold a wep?

Im noob on these things, but as I sometimes go thru the cheat server to build some things, well, I would to know how we can make an NPC holding a weapon, instead of him staying in the default spawn position.If we can, then how ?

The point of scripting is not to tell him. Besides, I do know a way but it crashes sometimes.
