What happened to me during those last months?

Why, hello everyone, I see the forums are still somewhat active with a few posts here and there, so I thought why not drop by to explain what happened to me during the last months.

Before we get going, 1 thing. I tried to join the server (deathrun) and it crashed and I am stuck on "Parsing Game info". Could use a restart.

I am now going under the alias "speedvoltage" but you all know me as Peter Brev, of course.

I wanted to go over why I terminated my forum account as well as my Steam account, losing a lot of data and valuable friends in the process (but I think it was worth it).

I only told this to a few people, but Area 51 is the community I grew up with.

So, back in October 2016, I got fed up of being called a cheater. I mean, since 2014, I kept being called one (I ignored those who called me a cheater on pubs servers, but the ones on competitive servers annoyed me more). So, when I saw gavvvr post a video about me claiming I was wallhacking, I got pissed off, so I had to justify myself, right? You can see the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-D7sq5u ... J&index=12
Maxtasy banned me back then, but after I registered on hl2dm.net and explained I was 100% clean, he somewhat showed respect and unbanned me (which is something I didn't really expect). Two years later, mid 2016, shit started to hit the fan and I was once again called a cheater a lot more than usual. I saw myself banned on over 100 servers for "cheating", even on Jump servers where it made no sense. Ignoring became more and more difficult. Hence, I saw an opportunity when fibre started coming at my place (new IP, new start), so I terminated all my online accounts and started afresh.

That was the boring part nobody cares about, now the interesting bit.

I started college, I am still looking to become an English teacher.

On the online world, I started and keep learning C++ and Sourcepawn. It's been almost a year now and I coded a lot of plugins now (most are not big plugins, but they do their job).

I am still level designing and I am working on a mod with somebody (who happens to be a C++ programmer who helps me bring my server to a whole new level).

I am still playing HL2DM, but the game is seriously lacking old players.

I wanted to address an issue players have seen for a while: cheaters. For a while now, there is one nasty cheat going on (which I am not going to name, and so should you if you know it) and VAC is powerless against it, which forces us (server owners and admins) to take action as quickly as possible to eliminate those cheaters.

The cheat in question has a polymorphic code, which, as its name implies, has a different code for all of those who download it, hence bringing VAC down to a mere useless anti-cheat against it. Some would say "Why not use SMAC on your server?". While discussing with some people and reading some forum posts, I stumbled upon some facts that are shockingly disappointing. Let's just say that SMAC is no longer as useful as it used to be. It hasn't been updated in a while and new cheats come out every day and there have been a lot of game updates since SMAC's release and it caused my server a lot more problems.

I browsed the Internet looking for other anti-cheat tools and stumbled upon NoCheatZ but has been left 4 dead.

Since I could not find any anti-cheat measures, I decided to code one myself, not only giving me a massive challenge, but I could learn along the way from mistakes that inevitably would come.

It took me many months to make the plugin and iron out mistakes that I made, but I managed to make a full server sided anti-cheat plugin.

I am pretty proud seeing that I could make this and make it work.

Right now, I got 42 plugins on my server, most were coded from scratch and some were completely rewritten:

Hey mate, glad to see you're still around.

I didn't want to name the cheat, but yes, it's that one.

Hey mate, I hope you are enjoying life. A shame the game is only played now by Russians and Russians with cheats.

Welcome back, I sent you a friend request and I thought I posted here before I did that, so oh well...I think we study in the same town, too, unless your steam location was random. Good luck for your modding projects.

Yeah but the main issue is the Russians. Based on the stats from my server, Russia plays the most with over 20 people. My anti-cheat caught 8 players with cheats (2 of them asked me to test their cheats to see if my anti-cheat would respond back), all of them from Russia.

I had to disable the map data due to a bug that's unsolvable but you can see the stats here.
